Biography / CV of Thomas Brown

London based carver and sculptor Tom Brown began his career in the time-honoured tradition of European stonemasons from the Renaissance onwards, travelling Britain and Europe to gain experience on various high-profile stone commissions. This journey both broadened his historical grasp of the tradition he had entered and taught him the practical skills needed to bend an intransigent medium to his will. Tom hopes to keep the ancient craft of working stone alive by producing his own original work; and also to do his part, as a restoration carver, in perpetuating our great European tradition of built heritage.

Tom produces work to the highest standard in architectural, sculptural and ornamental stone carving and is a First Class graduate of both Weymouth College and City and Guilds of London Art School.

A member of the `Master Carver`s Association` and elected to `the Worshipful Company of Masons`, through whom he promotes both the appreciation and the practise of the art of stone carving among the general public via displays of the craft.

He has been fortunate to have worked on many prestigious carving and restoration projects, including the V and A’s Renaissance galleries, Strawberry Hill Twickenham, The Royal Albert Memorial, St George’s Chapel Windsor, Queen`s College Oxford as well as projects across Europe including Brittany and Liguria.

Tom is an award winning stone carver and sculptor who carves and designs for private and public sculptural commissions in all types of stone as well as clay and bronze, using his wide range of experience for -

Portraiture
Figurative sculpture and statues
Restoration projects in historic architecture
Interior and exterior decorative and architectural ornament
Memorials, monuments and plaques

Customer comment on 'Accepting (abstract Seated Woman Sitting statuettte)' by Plamen Dimitrov
Dear Plamen and Peter, I am please to advise you both that `Acceptance` arrived yesterday afternoon and I unwrapped her in the early hours of this morning. She is without doubt the most beautiful item I have ever possessed. She is not a mere statue, she is sublime and a real presence in our lives already. Her slenderness and beauty is a sheer joy to behold. Thank you both and especially you Plamen for your creativity. You cannot possibly know just how much this beau... [Read more]
